Abstract

This study explores the influence of polymer blend ratios on the electrospinning process of chitosan-polylactic acid fibers, with a focus on optimizing fiber morphology, diameter, and porosity for biomedical applications. The research investigates the effects of varying concentrations of polyethylene oxide (PEO), polylactic acid (PLA), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) on solution properties and electrospinning parameters. The morphology and structure of electrospun fibers were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while fiber diameter distribution and porosity were evaluated quantitatively. The findings highlight that adding PLA to solution improves fiber formation, whereas the addition of PEG enhances fiber uniformity and reduces diameter variation up to 0.122±0.04 μm. These results provide insights into the fabrication of nanofibrous scaffolds with tailored properties for tissue engineering, drug delivery, and other biomedical applications. The study contributes to the advancement of electrospinning technology for biopolymeric materials by establishing optimal polymer blend ratios for enhanced fiber performance.
