Abstract

Article presents comparing of the authors’ mathematical model of the filtration phenomena with the results of the experimental tests. Experimental studies have shown that the concentration of solid contaminant particles in the hydraulic fluid is affected by: the filter efficiency in removing solid particles of specific size x (in microns) also named as separation capacity βx, relation of the pump flowrate to tank capacity Q/V, the filtration time. The obtained results indicate that for the cleaning of the hydraulic fluid is important the flushing time. During flushing of the hydraulic system the concentration of the contaminant particles decreases asymptotically to a certain value, which is dependent upon the particular hydraulic system, used filter and the environmental factors. The contamination levels of hydraulic fluids for tested hydraulic systems were measured using the Parker icount Oil Sampler. Samples of fluid were taken using the sampling valve, which was mounted in pressure line. Obtained experimental results show that efficiency of filter elements with the filtration ratings 10 μ and 20 μ dramatically decreasing for lower sizes of particles.
