Abstract

The complexity and limitations of common laparoscopic procedures induce designing of solutions that allow for efficient and precise methods of guidance throughout the surgery. Using Shape from Shading methods for reconstruction of surfaces in biomedical engineering and medicine creates a whole new approach in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The goal of presented work is to assess the quality of phantom liver surface reconstruction from monocular laparoscopic image frames using Shape from Shading algorithm by comparing the acquired shape with ground-truth 3D model from Time-of-Flight camera using Singular Value Decomposition registration algorithm.
