Abstract
A new concept of a protection and local control system with enhanced adaptive functions for thermal power stations with both gas- and steam-turbine generating units is described. Thanks to the implementation of Artificial Neural Networks realized in a multiplayer and space-dispersed structure as well as the choice of a respective communication system, short decision times in the modification of various protection and control functions dependent upon operational and/or fault and emergency conditions of the supervised generating sets are available, providing a high level of performance and reliability of the power station.
