Abstract

The results of studies are presented which show that sulfurization increases the lifetime of high-speed steel cutting tools, thus making it possible to increase the cutting rate and also the machining efficiency. The method of sulfurization employed is based on the production of a thin layer of iron sulfides on the steel surface by electrolysis of molten salts containing low-melting sulfur compounds.
