Abstract
The paper deals with the application of artificial intelligence and databases for technical diagnostics. The aim of the paper is to point out the most important factors that should be taken into account when the designing real applications of expert systems for technical diagnostics and advanced condition monitoring. The first such factor is the proper design of unified databases, featuring the diagnostic data warehouses. The databases acquire information from data sources (e.g. transducers) and may be used by real time expert systems. It was assumed that an expert system consists of a network of coexisting and related nodes containing active statements looking for an equilibrium state. Such a network may be saved as a relational database.
