Abstract
The paper presents mathematical and computer modelling of weakly-coupled multi-physic fields describing the process of electromagnetic stirring realized in an in-mould electromagnetic stirrer with a rotating magnetic field. The temperature field was analyzed along the entire continuous casting line in order to determine the real value of the solidified layer thickness in the axisymmetric steel ingot. Then for the known configuration of the inductor workpiece system, the electromagnetic field was calculated and, basing upon it, the distribution of specific Lorentz forces in the whole area of liquid steel was determined. Finally, the flow field was analyzed and the distribution of the liquid steel velocity was calculated. The FEM-based software supplemented by numerical procedures self-developed by the authors were used for the computations. The next work in the area should be aimed at increasing the calculation accuracy.
