Abstract
The paper presents a methodology of computer modelling of continual surface induction hardening of axi-symmetric bodies. The body is heated by a cylindrical inductor moving at a given velocity along it and the heated part is then cooled by spraying water. While the mathematical model of induction heating is given by two partial differential equations describing the harmonic electromagnetic and non-stationary temperature fields with one moving subregion, the process of cooling is modelled by a theoretically empirical algorithm based on experimental data and providing the value of the convective heat transfer coefficient. Theoretical analysis of the task is supplemented with an illustrative example and discussion of the results. Computations are performed by combination of professional codes and single-purpose user programs developed and written by the authors.
