BJT push-pull power amplifier with an atypical bias circuit

Research output: Contribution to journal › Article › peer-review

Abstract

This paper describes a circuit of the transistor push-pull power amplifier, which utilizes an atypical method of biasing the power transistors towards the class B or class AB mode of operation. The proposed method of biasing is based on the current drive of the power transistors, and thus it is especially well suited for Bipolar Junction Transistors. The proposed circuit of power stage may be considered as an equivalent alternative to the traditional Complementary Emitter Follower based solutions. The principles of operation of this circuit are explained in this paper, and also the essential results of experimental work (measurements) are shown, which confirm the possibility and desirability of the construction of amplifiers according to this atypical and slipping out of the tradition paradigm.
