Abstract

The presented research concerns the possibility of co-coking of coals and scrap tires mixtures. The provided studies on 5 samples of hard coal of different ranks, were performed in laboratory scale. The aim of these researches was to estimate the influence of the addition of 3 % and 8 % of tire granulate (≤ 3 mm) on the content of zinc in obtained cokes. The coking of hard coal and its blends with scrap tire granulate were carried out. The presence of zinc in hard coal, blends and obtained cokes has been detected by the atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The tire granulate contains about 1.5 % (15 000 ppm) of zinc in the form of ZnO. The addition of tire granulates into the coked coals (which contains 20 ÷ 73 ppm of zinc) cause significant growth of zinc content in the coking charge. As the results show, the majority of zinc added into the coke blends remains in the obtained coke. This amount depends on the rank of coked coal. It can be assumed that for coals with higher coalification. less zinc remains in obtained cokes than for cokes obtained from coals with lower coalification.
