Abstract
Tests on bearing capacity are reported of concrete elements transmitting strip loading in the vicinity of their edges. The elements were made of vibration-compacted gravel concrete and moulded expanded shale concrete. The failure mode is found to be dependent on the way in which the load is applied but the strength against local pressure is fairly independent of it. Data are presented in graphical and tabular form.
