Abstract
The problem involving the influence of heading timbering on crump hazards has not been so far subjected to detailed analysis, either analytical or experimental. Stand-and-model investigation studies were carried out in the Institute of Mining Engineering, aiming to define the influence of the load capacity of heading timbering on crump hazards from side walls. The tests were carried out for six coal models and three different load capacities of the timbering. Basing on the carried out tests, the relationship was determined between the components of stress state in rockmass during crumps from side walls to heading and the load capacity of heading timbering. The results of the carried out investigation studies explicitly prove that there is a relationship between the load capacity of the applied heading timbering and the value of stress components in rockmass at which the crumps are taking place. The present elaboration presents the results of the said investigation studies as well as conclusions aiming to reduce crump hazards from side walls to the heading.
