Abstract
The results of chemical and morpological investigations concerning Ramalina carpalica Koerb. and the geographical distribution of the particular taxons based on herbal collections gathered in the Department of Plant Geography and Systematics, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin, are reported. For the examination of lichen acids Y. Asahin's microchemical method was used. In the examined material the presence of three lichen acids was found: usnic, ramalinic and evernic. Usnic acid occurred in all the specimens examined; ramalinic acid was found only in var. carpalica and its forms: cvernic acid, was detected only in var. tepttcskaensis. Ramalina carpalica may be separated distrnclly into two chemical laxons which the authors suggest to consider as varieties. Between the taxons distinguished by chemical differences there occur also morphological differences. Gyelnik distinguished var. teplicskaensis. a variety acknowledged by Motyka (1962) exclusively on the basis of morphological characterises. In both chemical varieties no differences occur in geograph'cal distribution. The lack of detailed investigations on their habitat makes difficult the elucidation of the chemical differences in R. carpalica. On the basis of the material known so far the authors distinguished form carpalica and form truncata (Hazsl.) Bystr., nova comb., a form characterized by very thick segments swollen at the ends.
