Abstract
The results of abrasive wear tests are presented which show the advisability of using spheroidal cast iron (especially after heat treatment) for the sliding elements of machine tool slideways. A spheroidal cast iron with a perlitic structure is found to show higher strength after isothermal hardening than after a hardening and tempering treatment, but the wear rate of the isothermally hardened samples was increased.
