Architectural and urban planning guidelines for the transformation of riverside urban areas in the context of the paradigm of sustainable development

Abstract

The aim of this article is to specify the architectural and urban planning guidelines for transformation activities implemented in riverside areas of contemporary cities in the context of sustainable development. These guidelines constitute an original set of solutions resulting from the author's research. The main assumption of these guidelines is to shape the Integrated Blue-Green City System, which will allow to strengthen the built environment and the natural environment. A system that continuously connects water and greenery resources, creating supra-local, supra-urban connections. The guidelines were developed based on the analysis of changes in the approach to transformation activities implemented in riverside areas of cities. The analysis also covered the foundations and assumptions regarding sustainable development in architecture and urban planning. The research used the author's mixed method, which is a configuration of the logical argumentation, interpretative, heuristic and prognostic method, as well as a case study. The research results in the form of architectural and urban planning guidelines constitute an important set of assumptions helpful in the development of city strategic and planning documents.
