Application of combined BEM-FEM algorithm in numerical modelling of diffusion problems

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The paper contains the presentation of a certain algorithm which can be used in numerical modelling of thermal diffusion problems - in particular in a case of non-homogeneous domains. The method constitutes a composition of the finite element method (for the first domain) and the boundary element method (for the second domain). The way of these methods joining results from the heat flux continuity condition assumed on the contact surface. As will be shown, this approach essentially decreases the number of unknown parameters (the number of equations in final resolving system). The description of the algorithm is supplemented by the examples illustrating the possibilities of its application.
