Abstract

Self-heating effect, caused by energy dissipation during out-of-phase oscillations between stress and strain amplitudes, is an important phenomenon in polymer-based laminates. An increase of self-heating temperature in polymer-based laminates can be dangerous, because most polymers feature low glass-transition temperature and simultaneously low heat transfer coefficient. It causes the accumulation of heat the decreases of the material properties of the laminate. Therefore, the behaviour of polymer-based laminates during self-heating should be examined. In this paper the self-heating effect in laminated rectangular plates subjected to pure bending during harmonic forced loading was examined as a two-dimen-sional problem. In the examination four cases of pure bending of plates with different mechanical boundary conditions were considered. The examination revealed a solution of the problem for the thermal steady state and presented as double trigonometric infinite series. Numerical examples of temperature distribution were shown and the influence of loading parameters on self-heating temperature values was concluded.
