Abstract
A proton exchange membrane type fuel cell is composed of electrodes with a platinum catalyst, an electrolyte in the form of a membrane between them and mono-or bipolar plates conducting electrons. Humidification of the reactant gases is an important aspect of PEM fuel cell operation. Without adequate humidification, ion conduction cannot occur resulting in damage of a fuel cell. The paper presents the results of the tests of a prototype tubular PEM fuel cell. The main focus was put on humidification effect on fuel cell operation and on the selection of the appropriate tubular cell humidifying method.
