Abstract

A system for the direct connection of a patient to an IBM PC or compatible microcomputer is presented. A special computer card is designed which satisfies safety requirements and makes the direct connection of the patient possible. The system consists of a reasonably priced PC and this special card, which makes the acquisition, sampling, and forwarding of the biomedical data to the microcomputer memory possible. The system is intended for heart rate variability analysis, but it can be easily adapted to other types of biomedical signals.
