Abstract

The paper presents the results of research on the influence of surface topography and wettability of the Ti6Al7Nb alloy substrate on the adhesion of the biodegradable polymer poly (lactide-glycolide) coating (PLGA). The surface of the alloy was modified using mechanical pre-treatment including: grinding, vibratory machining, mechanical polishing, sandblasting and electrochemical treatment: electrolytic polishing and anodic oxidation. The polymer coating was applied to the metal substrate by the dip-coating method. The scope of the research included microscopic observation of the metal surface of the substrate and polymer coating, wettability test and topography of the metal surface, as well as qualitative and quantitative tests of the adhesion of the polymer coating to the substrate. Coating adhesion tests were conducted for samples in the initial state and kept for 6 weeks in Ringer’s solution. The results of the research indicate a significant influence of surface topography of the metal substrate on the adhesion of the polymer coating.
