The Department is an independent unit of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.
The head of the Department is Prof. Łukasz Drobiec, D.Sc.
The Department employs 21 research and teaching staff.
Teaching activities
- Design of reinforced concrete structures in civil engineering
- Design of metal structures
- Design of steel-concrete composite structures
- Design of masonry structures
- Conducting thesis work
Research activities
Experimental strength testing of reinforced concrete structures:
- Support zones of column and plate structures (punching through)
- Continuous reinforced concrete beams
- Multifield column-slab structures in emergency situation
- Effectiveness of concrete-concrete composite on the basis of dynamic measurements
Laboratory testing of masonry structures:
- In biaxial state of compression
- In the complex state of stress - shear with compression
- In the complex state of stress - bending with compression
Testing of metal structures, including:
- Load capacity and stiffness of susceptible connections to one-sided fasteners in bent section structures
- Strain capacity of girders with a corrugated web
- Analysis of models of complex objects taking into account imperfections
- Influence of high temperature during fire
Problems of durability of reinforced concrete structures:
- Thermodynamic modeling of corrosion
- Cathodic protection, electrochemical chloride extraction, realkalization of carbonatized concrete
- Advanced polarization measurements of the corrosion rate of reinforcement
- Testing of protective properties of concrete
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of inhibitors
